Big Moves as the Transfer Window Closes
Lots to report as the transfer window closes. The big news on the striker front includes the news that Benjani moves from Portsmouth to Man City, Defoe moves from Spurs to Pompey and Alves joins Middlesbrough.
I think that Defoe ended up moving because he would not sign a new contract at the club.
Benjani fits the profile that Sven seems to want - strong and quick front man.
Alves - to be honest I don't know that much about him. Any takers?
The other big news is that there are rumors that Liverpool signed a transfer agreement for Mascherano for a fee approaching 19 million pounds.
I was a bit surprised that Chimbona did not move from Spurs to Villa (Spurs did well getting Gilberto the Brazilian fullback). I also thought Arsenal may dip into the market...although Wenger is never that keen to spend cash in the Jan window.
Update [2008-1-31 23:31:25 by Left Midfield]: and in the U.S. it is the MLS focus on players from Latin America that is most interesting: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/gregory_sica/01/30/mls.sa/1.html
