World Player of the Year Short List

I was taking a look at the FIFPro world player of the year short list and I have to say there are a few shocks on there - Terry and Lampard for last season doesn't work for me nor Henry to be honest.
What do you guys think of the list?
Who wins it in the end?

Buffon (Juventus, Italy), Cannavaro (Real Madrid, Italy), Cech (Chelsea, Czech Rep), Ronaldo (Man Utd, Portugal), Deco (Barcelona, Portugal), Drogba (Chelsea, Ivory Coast), Essien (Chelsea, Ghana), Eto'o (Barcelona, Cameroon), Gattuso (AC Milan, Italy), Gerrard (Liverpool, England), Henry (Barcelona, France), Juninho (Lyon, Brazil), Kaka (AC Milan, Brazil), Klose (Bayern Munich, Germany), Lahm (Bayern Munich, Germany), Lampard (Chelsea, England), Marquez (Barcelona, Mexico), Messi (Barcelona, Argentina), Nesta (AC Milan, Italy), Pirlo (AC Milan, Italy), Ribery (Bayern Munich, France), Riquelme (Villarreal, Argentina), Ronaldinho (Barcelona, Brazil), Rooney (Man Utd, England), Terry (Chelsea, England), Tevez (Man Utd, Argentina), Thuram (Barcelona, France), Torres (Liverpool, Spain), Van Nistelrooy (Real Madrid, Holland), Vieira (Inter Milan, France).

The competition means little to me...
The shortlist is hardly based on whose been the best player in the world over the previous season.

Lampard hasn't had a fantastic last year and nor has Terry. Henry was missing for most of the last season and Cech spent a large part of it out with a head injury.

Tevez may have had one golden period at the end of the season, but he's hardly set the world alight, if I'm honest. Rooney didn't have a fantastic season, nothing close to Ronaldo.

Ronaldhino has been underpar, Cannavaro has been average, Klose was part of a dire Bayern side and Thuram has been in and out.

The shock for me is the list of absentees, really. Where is Totti - top goalscorer in Europe and enjoying the best form of his career? Where are the Alves (Dani and Alfonso..) to name but three.

The only thing that all of those names have in common is not that they've played exceptional football, it's that they're big names with big reputations.

Robinho...
is another dramatic absense.  I thought he was instrumental in Brazil's Copa America run.  He was named player of the tournament if I remember.  As well being a big part of Madrid's late surge that lead to them to winning La Liga last year (He, like Beckham, was out of favor the beginning of the year, but came on strong down the stretch).
