Attending My First Match

Next Thursday I'll be going to see my first ever professional soccer match.  It will be the LA Galaxy against Chivas USA at Home Depot Center.  I've become quite a Galaxy fan since they're the local club and they've got such a fascinating group of players.  Although their defense is crap and their goalie is one of the most indecisive goalkeepers I've ever seen in a soccer match.  He can never make up his mind to charge or not.  Maybe he doesn't trust his defense, but it just looks awkward quite often.

Any way, I'm quite pumped to see Becks, Donovan and Buddle live.  I even picked up a Galaxy jersey for the occasion.

Anyone got any tips about what to expect?  It's technically an away game for the Galaxy in their home stadium so I expect quite a few Galaxy fans there as well.  I don't expect it to be Premier League football, but I'm hoping to see a good match despite the Galaxy's terrible struggles lately.

I think that you will see a fired up Galaxy side

there are rumors circulating that the ownership group has let everyone know that the slump is not acceptable and that everyone (apart from Becks) is replaceable if things don’t change—and that includes Landon Donovan, Ruud and Lalas.

I hope so

They looked positively lackluster against the Earthquakes on Sunday. It was embarrassing.

Really they should’ve rolled over that team but the defense stands around watching a lot. I’m not impressed with Ruud as a coach. As much talent as the Galaxy have up front, they should be one of the best teams in MLS.

Chivas USA

They have a pretty good supporter’s group (barra) and they get really pumped up for the games against the Galaxy so it should be a pretty good atmostphere.

Don’t get caught alone in the parking lot with any of the goats though!

Have fun

Live soccer is one of the best things on the planet. If anything, the Galaxy defense should be good for a laugh.

One thing I enjoy live that you can’t do when watching on the telly is pick out a player and follow him for an extended period, even when the ball is not at his feet. Watch how he moves off the ball, how he reacts, positions himself, stuff like that. I did this with Mastroeni and Joseph when I saw the Rapids play the Revolution a while back. You can really learn a lot about the game that way.

You’ll get a massive boost of soccer knowledge from watching it live especially if you are sitting high enough in the stands.

The Super Classico usually has some good atmosphere.

If

Chivas USA fans are anything like Chivas fans, you better expect quite the ruckus.

I don't think they're anything alike

A bunch of my wife’s family roots for Chivas (the team from Mexico) and they haven’t embraced that team the same way.

You are in for good times

I caught this matchup a couple of years ago and had a really good time; The atmosphere, like other MLS games I have been to, was mostly family friendly. Yet, the supporter group sections were raucus and fun…

How do I know what section is a group supporter section?

Obviously I’d want to sit in the Galaxy section ;-)

It’d be funny if I accidentally bought tickets to the Chivas section. I’ll leave the Becks jersey at home if that’s the case. LOL

They tend to be in the ends. You can usually find it by going to the stadium’s seating chart.

I just looked at it

and I’m sitting near the center line so I’m no where near the ends ;-)

Perfect seats. You’ll get great views of the entire field. Make sure to post pictures.
