I was a little bit surprised to see the coach of the LA Galaxy note that he opposed the move by Beckham to Milan on a three month loan. To my mind it is a real problem if Beckham's coach is not even involved in the discussions over a temporary shift of the Galaxy's top player.

Arena made this comment to the LA Times

"On the surface, it sounds like an odd proposition," 

For me the issue is not so much whether Beckham should go to Milan in order to ensure he can remain in contention for England, the real issue is who makes the decision. In a situation like this you need to have the player, his coach and the team President all sign off on the move before it happens.

The LA Galaxy has been a fairly average side over the past two years, they have a lot if work to do if they are to get set for a tilt at the title next season - this kind of uncertainty does not help.

While we are on the subject of the LA Galaxy, my feeling is that they need to make a big change in the squad - the time is right for Arena to get rid of a player who has done a lot for his sides over the years, Landon Donovan.

The cap room that Landon takes up is too much for the Galaxy to handle. They need to shift him out and rebuild the side around Beckham. Play a 4-5-1 system with Becks in the middle of the park, ensure he gets lots of touches and keep him as captain.

If Arena can bring in a defensive midfielder to sit along side Becks and some solidity in defense, they could go far next year. I think Buddle is a good forward and there is a lot of good cheap talent that would willingly play in LA alongside Becks.
